Privacy policy

How we collect, use, share and protect your personal information, in plain English.

Last updated 3 October 2026

1. Who we are

Fly Mel Pty Ltd (ABN 77 646 212 884), trading as Flymel Freight, of 30 David Dr, Sunshine West VIC 3020 ("we", "us"). We are a freight forwarding and customs clearance business. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

2. What we collect

  • When you ask for a quote or contact us: your name, company, email address, phone number, ABN if you give it, the details of your shipment, your message, and any document you upload (for example a commercial invoice or packing list). Documents can contain other people's details; please only send what you are allowed to share.
  • When we handle a shipment for you: the details needed to move and clear the goods, such as the names, addresses and contact details of the shipper, the receiver and the delivery contact, and the information that customs and biosecurity require.
  • When you visit this website: our server records your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and stop abuse. This website does not use cookies for tracking or advertising.

We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health information, and ask that you do not send it.

3. How we collect it

Mostly from you: through our website forms, by email, by phone or in person. Sometimes from others involved in your shipment, such as your supplier, an overseas agent, a carrier or a customs broker, when they need us to act on it.

4. Why we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry and prepare a quote.
  • To arrange and carry out the services you ask for: booking freight, customs clearance, biosecurity and delivery.
  • To invoice you and keep our accounts.
  • To meet our legal obligations, including customs, biosecurity and tax record-keeping.
  • To keep this website secure and working.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Who we share it with

  • Those needed to move and clear your goods: shipping lines, airlines, transport companies, warehouses, overseas agents and licensed customs brokers.
  • Australian Government customs and biosecurity agencies, when your shipment requires it.
  • The services that run our systems: DigitalOcean, which hosts our website and records in Sydney, and Resend, which delivers our emails.
  • Anyone else the law requires or allows us to share it with.

6. Information sent overseas

Our records are kept in Australia (Sydney). Some information does leave Australia:

  • Your shipment: details go to the agents and carriers in the countries your goods come from, travel through or go to. Those countries depend on your shipment.
  • Our emails: Resend, which sends the emails from this website, keeps records of them, including their contents, in the United States.

7. How we protect and keep it

We store records in an Australian data centre, use encrypted connections, and limit access to people who need it for their work. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above and for as long as the law requires us to keep records, and then delete it or remove what identifies you.

8. Automated decisions

We do not use computer programs to make decisions about you without a person involved.

9. Seeing and correcting your information

You can ask for the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, by emailing info@flymel.com.au. We will reply within a reasonable time. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will tell you why.

10. Questions and complaints

Email info@flymel.com.au or call 0470 687 907. We aim to respond to a complaint within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

11. Data breaches

If a breach of your personal information is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Privacy Act requires.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page, with the date it last changed.
